What Makes 5052 H32 Aluminum Sheet Ideal for Industrial Use?

2025-05-15

5052 H32 aluminum sheet is a temper-treated alloy that undergoes strain hardening and stabilization, achieving a strength between annealed (O) and full-hard (H38) states, approximately one-quarter hard. As a non-heat-treatable high-strength alloy, it primarily contains magnesium with trace amounts of chromium, silicon, iron, copper, manganese, and zinc to enhance mechanical properties. Additionally, this material offers excellent corrosion resistance, weldability, and cold-working capabilities, making it suitable for diverse industrial applications.

Properties of 5052 Aluminum Sheet

Compared to other common alloys (e.g., 3003), 5052 aluminum sheet excels in:

– Higher Strength: Enhanced by magnesium content;

– Superior Corrosion Resistance: Ideal for saline environments due to copper-free composition;

– Exceptional Weldability: Outstanding among aluminum alloys;

– Formability: Balances strength and ductility for stamping and bending;

– Surface Finish Adaptability: Yields bright, uniform anodized coatings for decorative uses;

– Lightweight & Durability: Semi-smooth surface combines functionality and aesthetics.

Meaning of H32 Temper

In 5052 H32 aluminum sheet, “H32” indicates strain hardening to 1/4 hardness with stabilization. This process, aided by magnesium or magnesium-manganese alloying, delivers medium-to-high strength while remaining non-heat-treatable.

5052 H32 vs. H34 Aluminum Sheet

Both share identical composition but differ mechanically due to tempering:

1. Tensile Strength: H32: 210-260 MPa; H34: 230-280 MPa;

2. Yield Strength (Rp0.2): H32: 130 MPa; H34: 150 MPa (stress at 0.2% plastic deformation);

3. Minimum Bend Radius: H32: 1.5t; H34: 2.0t (smaller radius indicates better formability).

In summary, 5052 H32 aluminum sheet is widely used in marine, automotive, construction, and electronics industries, offering an optimal balance of strength and workability.
